WASHING INSTRUCTIONS:
It is recommended that you wash your buckle dog collar, martingale collar, leash, or pet accessories on a gentle cycle in the washing machine, contained within a laundry bag or tied pillowcase. Only use mild detergent such as Zero or Woolite. Hand washing is also an option. Lay flat to air dry on a towel. DO NOT DRY IN THE DRYER!
Your dog collar or pet accessories can be washed regularly if the above method is used. It is recommended to wash once the dog collar is showing noticeable signs of buildup. Would you wear soiled clothing?! Then why should your mutt sport a soiled dog collar!?
ADJUSTABLE COLLAR INSTRUCTIONS:
If you need to adjust the size of your mutt's buckle dog collar once you receive it, there are a few simple guidelines to follow to keep your collar at its best.
DO NOT EXCESSIVELY PULL THE COLLAR THROUGH THE SLIDE OR THE BUCKLE TO ADJUST THE SIZE. I have seen people try to adjust the size of a buckle dog collar by tugging extremely hard on the collar band to pull it through the slide adjuster. This makes me wince in pain! This puts a great deal of unecessary strain on the fabric and can cause the fabric on your buckle dog collar to wear faster than normal.
Instead, gently push the collar band up through one side of the slide, and pull gently down the other side. Then, adjust the collar at the buckle. Continue this process until you reach the perfect fit. Please remember that Mutts About You does not accept refunds for fabric wear and tear, so please be gentle with your new mutt accessory!
For a martingale collar, follow the same simple instructions. However, instead of adjusting at the buckle you will be adjusting at the adjoining slide near the control loop.
COLLAR AND LEASH INSPECTION:
You should inspect your buckle dog collar, martingale dog collar, and/or leash regularly for signs of damage and potential problems. This ensures that your mutt's collar is always at its best and safest. Check your mutt's collar/leash for signs of chewing, scratching, tearing; look for wear in the fabric or webbing, pulled or broken stitches. Even the strongest of seams or fabrics can be damaged by a well placed tooth or toenail. If your mutt wears its collar daily, it should be checked frequently. If it is a dog collar for special occassions or outings, it should be inspected each time the collar is worn. If it was a coach dog collar would you take extra special care of it as if it was a designer handbag? I bet you would! So please take extra special care of your Mutts About You collar!
WEAR and TEAR:
Mutts About You has taken the time to create for you an exquisetly put together product based on strength, durability, and beauty. However, we cannot design and create a collar or even pet accessories that can withstand every possible situation imagineable. Playful dogs often bite at necks, scratching could cause pulling of stitches, pulling to adjust your buckle dog collar can cause fabric breakdown. It is up to you, the person that knows your mutt best, to decide on the suitability of any buckle dog collar, martingale collar, leash, or pet accessories for your treasured friend.
Wear and Tear will be different based upon: how often does your mutt wear his collar, how rough does he play with other dogs, are there puppies around that chew or tug at her neck, do you switch your mutt's collars on a regular basis, do your mutts roll in the mud, do they spend a lot of time outside exposed to the elements? All of the above factors can affect the life expectancy of your dog collar, martingale or buckle, and cause "normal wear and tear" to show faster.
As previously mentioned, I am a large dog breed owner. I have 3 rough and tumble male huskies that play hard and spend 80% of their day outside; this is how they like it! They test all of my products for durability and strength; they wore their last set of collars 24/7 for one year except when taken off for washing. They are still wearable and only show limitted signs of wear and fading; this included a collar made of the silky type fabrics. However, every dog collar is different, every fabric is different, everyone's definition of rough is different, every mutt owner is different, every mutt is different. This is only my experience, but it is a valid one, and a good idea of how long a Mutts About You collar can last. It may not be a genuine coach dog collar, but it is just as exceptional and beautiful.
MUTTS ABOUT YOU RECOMMENDATION: Wear and tear will be reduced if you switch around your mutt's collars on a regular basis. Mutts About You collars are extremely durable, but it may be recommended to use your designer inspired dog collar for walks, outings, etc if you wish to prolong its life expectancy. This is similiar to you changing your clothes for various outings and occassions! Would you wear your Coach Shoes to garden in? Then save your mutt's designer inspired collarfor those exceptional moments, just as if it were a genuine coach dog collar!
There are certain fabrics I would not recommend for rough and tumble dogs, for dogs that spend a great deal of time outside, or for collars that are worn daily. Most of my fabrics are thick, upholstery type fabric, designed for wear. Others are more like a charmeuse silk and the weave of the fabric is more delicate and may wear quicker. Please check the fabric description for this information. These silk type fabrics are recommended more for small dogs, lapdogs, inside dogs, and more docile dogs, but would be fine if you frequently change a larger more active dogs' collar on a regular basis.
